White Paper on ECD Costs and Finance

With support from the Bernard van Leer Foundation, Alejandro Acosta (CINDE, Colombia), Robert Myers (Consultant living in Mexico), and Emily Vargas-Barón (Director, The RISE Institute) are preparing a White Paper on ECD Costs and Finance that will be issued in 2007.


Schools that Teach and Heal

“Schools that Teach and Heal,” a project of the University of Ibagué and Rosario University was designed in Colombia by RISE Associates. Funded by The Japan Program of the Inter-American Development Bank, it is halfway through Phase I and an Interim Report has been issued. Hernando Bernal, RISE Director in Colombia, participates in this program.


Planning Policies for Early Childhood Development

With support from UNICEF Country Offices and the Association for the Development of Education in Africa (ADEA), the Government of the Netherlands, UNESCO and the nations themselves, The RISE Institute is helping nations in Latin American, Sub-Saharan Africa, Eastern Europe and Central Asia develop national ECD policies and plans.


Collaboration with the Consultative Group
for Early Childhood Care and Development

As follow-up of the 2007 Education for All Global Monitoring Report that was presented on 26 October 2006, The RISE Institute will prepare tools for early childhood development advocacy, financing, and accountability.


From Bullets to Blackboards, this time in Sub-Saharan Africa

During 2007, The RISE Institute will prepare an African volume of From Bullets to Blackboards: Education for Peace in Latin America and Asia. The volume will include studies on successful education programs in conflict countries of Sub-Saharan Africa.


Study of Early Childhood Intervention (ECI) Programmes in Belarus

Belarus has developed two quality ECI programmes that could serve as sources of inspiration, training and technical support for other nations of Eastern Europe, South-eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia. This study will provide detailed programme descriptions, lessons learned, recommendations, and a checklist for developing ECI programmes.


Going to Scale: Early Childhood Development in Latin America

This study of exemplary national ECD programs and pilot programs in Bolivia, Colombia Honduras and Mexico will attempt to identify essential requirements for taking programs to scale. Prepared for the World Bank, the audience for this study are finance, planning and other ministers and specialists who are charged with the responsibility of allocating budgets for improving and expanding services for young, vulnerable children.
